Providing home safety inspection services in Blue Earth and Nicollet Counties...

This program advises seniors regarding the repair and maintenance needs of their homes and, when appropriate, coordinates volunteers (and/or professionals) to do the work needed to continue to live there safely and independently.

A home inspection will be conducted by a professional chore program staff member to assess the repair and maintenance needs of a senior's home from "foundation to roof". Recommendations will be made, prioritized, and shared with the homeowner and family members.

The program enlists the help of local contractors, and volunteers to get the job completed in an efficient, safe and cost effective manner. VINE Faith in Action program staff will ensure that the work is done fairly and competently. Information on reverse mortgage programs will be offered when appropriate. Program participants will be placed on a regular schedule and offered routine home maintenance service to help them remain living safely in their homes for as long as possible.

There is no formal charge for the home safety inspection. Staff will help assess home repair costs. Seniors receiving nursing home transition and routine home maintenance services are expected to be as generous as possible with contributions to VINE.
